What is the best free Recording software?

Author: Hi everybody! See, I want to do voice recording in my Toshiba laptop (like lectures) so that I can later burn them to DVDs. I have a mic with me already. Now which free software can I use to record myself and get a good sound quality? Any help is appreciated.
