What recording equipment should I get?

I am looking to "build" a home recording studio for under $6000. What would be the best equipment. If it helps any, I play pop/ rock. Please help me out. I also need to know where to get it. I need it all!

I also just build a home recording studio.

Well first of all you will need a computer. Get something with at least 2gb’s of ram, even better 4 gbs. A cpu with about 3ghz dual core, or if you have money quad core. And don’t forget a big hard drive for all the music.

Then you will need a mic of curse. There’s so many out there that it’s hard to pic. You need to know there’s two main types of mics; dynamic and condenser. Condenser might be better but you will need to research a bit into that.

You will also need good monitor speakers. You will need two to put on each side for stereo. Normal computer speakers wont do for home recording. I have KRK Rokit8. They are very good and they are at an average price. Just look for monitor speakers. They are best for home studios.

If you are going to record piano or do any MIDI audio, you will need a midi keyboard. Some you can even connect via USB like i do. I have the M-AUDIO Axiom 61

And now you will need a recording interface to connect everything. This really depends on your needs. If you are connecting drum microphones, you will need a lot of instrument plug ins. Most interfaces come with XLR inputs for microphones. Today a lot of companies make special inputs that you can connect both XLR and TRS cables. If you are going to connect a MIDI keyboard you will need a MIDI input too. And all interfaces will have 2 stereo outputs to connect each speaker to. I have the PreSonus Audiobox. Its not too expensive and it does everything I need to do.

And last and probably most important is the program you are going to use on the computer. There’s a lot to choose form and you will need to learn how to use them. I use FL Studio to make beats, but its probably not the best for you to record guitar and sing. You will find Cubase the best for your use. You can record a lot of instruments and sing and its somewhat easy to use.

Hope I helped :D
