Why is music recording software so expensive?

Don’t they know that most musicians are poor? :/

I currently have Cubase LE (free edition that came with my FireBox). Cubase 4 costs a whopping $600. Although I have been pleased with the intuitiveness of the Cubase interface, I’m going to make either MixCraft 4 or Reaper my next purchase ($65, $230 respectively). The only thing I’m concerned about is MIDI support, which I know the current version of Reaper is now competent at.

Have you considered FL Studio?

I know it looks quite different from Cubase, but don’t get fooled by the pattern based view it opens in. It supports MIDI and has a great piano roll. If you get the Producer Edition ($199) you also get full audio support with ASIO in recording and the Edison Wave Editor.

I don’t know what type of music you’re doing but I can get anything done on it really.

You can try the demo here: http://demo.flstudio.com

If you would like to buy it you can get a 10% on your purchase from the image-line store with this promo link: http://support.flstudio.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BACJBAA468
(only for new image-line customers, so you can only use the code once, make sure you get all you want in one go)
