Is there any good music recording software out there that’s free?

Author: My band is gonna start recording stuff eventually, so….yeah. Something that would be ideal for rock/metal/alternative please. Thanks ninjas.
Audacity is good…but not really. You are extremely limited in what you can do.
Ardour isn’t free, but you can try the full version for free for as long as you like. Reaper is a very good program that lets you try the full version for a month, after that it is $60 (which is a steal). I would be cautious with free DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), since frequently, you get what you pay for.
Also, I assume you will need some sort of interface. Many manufacturers include their DAW with their interface.
