Best free music/audio recording software?

Author: I am currently writing a song and i am playing each instrument myself. I need a recording software so i can record each instrument seperately then play it all together to make a good song. Do you know any FREE music recording softwares i can use so i can write a song? I tried audacity but the timng wasnt that good. I want a better one than that but it has to be FREE

Did you use Audacity in multi-track recording format?.
Here’s how to set it up:
Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
"play other tracks while recording new one".
Import the first track then monitor it while recording subsequent track/s.
It’s best to use headphones while doing this.
