I just plugged my amp directly to my computer. Seems to work great.

  • Yrocker says:

    You need a better …
You need a better sound card. Especially if you are using a laptop.

“Recording software we use to record.”

  • shawnbeaulieu says:

    if it sounds to …
if it sounds to muddy, make sure you turn the bass down & bring mids up, also turn down distortion (that doesn’t make it heaveir) make sure your mic placement is right. sm57 should have no probs.

  • LimitlessStudios says:

All of this is very …
All of this is very good advice. The SM57 is an industry standard mic for recording guitars and you can get a great sound of just one of them.

  • Rizzy55 says:

I dont say this to …
I dont say this to be mean but to wake you up a bit.— Its not the mic–its you

Forget about your room amp sound–its meaningless once a mic is in front. The only thing that matters is how the finished product sounds in the monitors. This, and this alone is why so many people have problems. Isolate your self from the amp room and listen from the monitors while someone else turns the dials—when you return to see your amps settings you will probably be shocked :)

    I have a shure sm57 …
I have a shure sm57 and it sounds awful for recording distorted guitar. When I hear other peoples recordings with it they seem fine, but when I record with it it sounds too muddy and messy

Is it amp noise? If not can you post a sample of this noise on our forum and we’ll see if we can pin point the problem.

  • LimitlessStudios says:

If you have $100 to …
If you have $100 to spend, definitely get the Shure SM57. It works perfectly on a guitar cab and is pretty much industry standard. However you’ll need an audio interface with a built in preamp if you don’t already have one.

  • bbathtub101 says:

    Shure SM57, …
Shure SM57, behringer C-1 which i what i use or the budget version of a sm57 a PG47 but the behringer is the cheapest
