Thinking of setting up a small home recording studio?
I want to set up a small home studio, i just wanted to ask what you think i would need? I have a computer with good quality speakers, and a good microphone. I was thinking of buying a m-box mini 2 with pro-tools, and some sort of midi keyboard. What would anyone recommend? I want quite good quality but it doesn’t need to be mega high quality like professional or anything like that. Thanks.
Ditch the "Good Quality" computer speakers and get yourself some studio monitors. M-Box 2 Mini is good, and Pro Tools is also good. Note that the M-Box2 mini limits you to only 2 inputs. A MIDI keyboard/controller is also good. An 8 channel or 16 channel mixer would be good to have. If you decide on getting a mixer, you might want to get a patch-bay.
As far as your microphone goes, if its dynamic, consider getting a condensor mic. Audio Technica’s AT2020 is a fantastic introductory level mic. If you have cash to burn, go with an AKG c414. Headphones are a MUST for cue sends(I recommend AKG k240).
Although ProTools is the industry standard, have a look at Reaper. Its a fantastic software based DAW at a fraction of the cost of other audio software.
Good Luck with the studio.
You’ll probably want:
An Interface
Instrument/Vocal mics
A mixer
but it all depends on what instruments you’re wanting to record

That would be perfect,
At first it might seem like it doesn’t sound good, but the plug-ins that come free with it are virtually all you need to make things sound great.
I’m gonna save you years of terrible vocal sound right now, so you’ll want to write this down or something, it will make sense when you see the plugin.
Bombfactory bf76 compressor on the vocal track. in the plugin:
same input / output level, around 18. Low attack (1), High release (7), and hit the button that says "8" in the ratio. GR in the Meter.
That’s some GOLD right there man, for real, took me years to figure out how to get a pro sounding vocal, most people won’t tell you that because they don’t want to give away their secrets,
But what the F right? Someone finally told me and now my stuff sounds amazing. Opened up more room for learning.

Hey, I also have a home studio and I’m getting pretty good sound. The budget? Well, you don’t really need much.
A PC, voice recording software (Cubase or Nuendo), a microphone a sound card, a popfilter and a preamp.
You’ll love the AT2020 microphones. It’s like 100$ and it brings quality sounds. I use it for 1 year and you cannot see the difference between it and more expensive mics. The song mix will make the difference!Remember that. But if you have enough VSTs you’ll manage to do good!
Good Luck
