Is Garageband for Mac any good when it comes to digital audio recording?

Author: I don’t know anyone with a Mac, and none of my friends are very interested in music. I would like to find software that would let me record my music in better quality, as my Olympus voice recorder is OK, but not made for music recording. Any help, suggestions, ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!!
How does it sound? Is it difficult to learn for a non-Mac user?
Garageband offers 16 bit and 24 bit recording at 44.1 kHz. By definition, CDs are 16 bit, 44.1 kHz, so GarageBand can record and export better than CD.
From GarageBand Help:
By default, GarageBand records and exports audio at CD quality (44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit depth). You can have GarageBand record Real Instrument regions and export projects at a higher audio resolution (24-bit depth).
