DIY: How to Make a High Powered Burning Blue/Violet Laser Pointer

The video shows you how to build a high powered burning violet laser (reason why it says Blue/Violet in title is because half the things you point the violet laser at fluoresce and cause the dot to turn blue)

For written tutorial go here: http://styropyro.com/tutorials/violetmodule.htm

Parts List:
PHR-803T sled-
http://www.daedallasers.com/lasers/laser-sleds/phr-803t-diode-only.html
(Use this link instead of the one in the description, this place is cheaper! This is the laser diode only so you don’t have to deal with the rest of the sled)

101mA Driver- http://tinyurl.com/dnam4q

Aixiz Module-
http://modwerx.com/shop/laser-focusing-module-for-56mm-laser-diodes-adjustable-focus-p-11.html

Helpful Notes:
For extra output, cut out the plastic on the back of the lens

This set up should yield you just under 100mW of 405nm (violet) light, easily enough to burn.

DO NOT “test” the laser diode by hooking it up to a 9v battery, if you do you will break your laser

NEVER EVER point this laser in yours or somebody else’s eyes, the wavelength of this light is more energetic then most visible light so a hit in the eye will damage your eyesight! Also do not stare at the dot from up close with out proper protection, if you stare at the dot too much when burning things your eyesight could get damaged.

Come to www.laserpointerforums.com if you need help with this, a bunch of people including me will be glad to help you out with your project.

Is a dell a precision 360 suitable for use in a home recording studio?

3GHZ
80GIG HD
512 MEM. i will upgrade it.

Just want to be sure it will be ok.
I will be running programmes like cubase, protools etc.

I want to be sure before I buy it at a bargain price.

The processor should have plenty of horsepower but the memory and disk should be beefed up a bit. Audio files can be quite large, especially if you start adding special effects to them. I would go with a 300 Gig drive or bigger if you can afford it. A gig of RAM should be a good starting point for XP but if you are running Vista you will want at least 2 gig.

Good luck,
Captain Computer

set up recording studio home?

i am looking for professional quality recordings of rap vocals at an affordable price on my home pc. can somebody give me a few ideas on soundcards, mics, and a mixer to give me the best bang for my buck when it comes to sound quality??? help will be greatly appreciated

Instead of having to deal with soundcards, the easy way to do it is external hardware via Firewire or USB2.0. On the market right now is a Tascam US-122L. It goes for $149 and it is your sound card, mic pre-amp, and headphone amp. It has RCA and 1/4inch outs to plus directly into your monitors/computer speakers/home stereo.
It also comes with Cubase LE recording sofeware with all the vocal effects you would need. Usually rap is direct recording this can be perfect for it

For vocals, I usually use a saddled phantom power mic with a pop sheild on a stand(around $200-300 for a better quality mic) For rap you can normally use the onboard effects in Cubase like compression, overdrive, delay and such. If you want to thicken them up, buy a tube pre-amp for around $100. Behringer or ART have a good selection and are affordable with good quality.

I’ve dumped a few grand in my studio, but I’ve got a full, all-style, setup and a lot of equipment. For rap vocals, you can get away with minimal equipment.

*note* When recording vocals, no bathrooms. Closets with dampening material all over will eliminate reverb. Even using a closet full of clothes hung up will work well.

I am trying to start a home recording studio?

Basically I’ve decided that I should start my own recording studio at home. I’m not good with all that technical stuff but I’m willing to give it a try. I’ve noticed that people that have recording studio’s are usually guys and they always want something from you in return. I don’t have a massive budget I just want to be able to make beats, tracks, and maybe record my guitar and sing. I would also like to be able to edit what I record. I called radioshack and the guy said to buy a recording package with comes with a mic, mic stand pro tools and other stuff, but he says I’m gonna need another program like fruit loops I have no idea what to do or where to start HEEEELP!!!!

hmmm… thanks for playing but maybe you should come back when you need pics for your cd cover. this is the photography category.

Home Recording Studio Question. Question about USB Mixers.?

I am setting up a home recording studio. I was wondering if I could buy a USB mixer and record straight to the software on my computer. I want to be able to record multiple instruments at the same time and have seperate tracks for each instrument on the computer software.
Thanks for your help.

Yea you can I do with pro tools and a mac.

Which DAW program/software Do you Recommend for Home Studio Recording and Mixing?

As the title says…
Ive been looking at:

FL Studios
Cubase
Pro Tools
Cakewalk Sonar
Propellerhead Reason
Acid Pro

Any suggestions, Running a PC and looking to do recording through mics for Vocals, Bass and electric Guitar… Need a program that can produce a good amount of nice, Rock sounding drums.
Suggestions?

FL studio. It has everything you’ll ever need and endless VST support.

To iMac or Not To iMac? Small home recording studio…?

I currently use a dell prescission t4700 for my home recording, top of the range at the time but have had nothing but problems with it, always breaking down, very slow sometimes, its big and clumpy, noisy etc..

Then one day I seen the sleek new iMac, it looks great, no big cpu has 4gb ram 3.33ghz etc and i want to get one…

Does anyone know from experience if it would be suitable for a small home studio. I want to run protools, a handful of decent plug-ins and when recorded i usually only take up about 16-24 tracks.

Would the iMac handle all this? Or should it be avoided?

Any help would be great, thanks

Absolutely, home studios are one of the key things Macs were made for. My MacBook with 2gb ram and 2.4ghz can support this kinda stuff, and an even better Mac would just get the job done easier.
