What is good recording software for linux?

Ive recently started useing ubuntu linux, because it runs better on my computer than windows. Any suggestions for good music recording software? I have An electric keyboard, electric guitar, electric, bass, electric drums, and a sampler (turn tables). Id like something flexible so i can use them all on the same software.

Audacity is a the easiest to get jump started and most likely to have drivers for your break out box.

There are several others. If you do a lot of Midi work I suggest Rosegarden. Keyboardists especially tend to favor Rosegarden. I love the interface, full featured but can be picky about which break out boxes it talks too.

Aurdor is another full featured recording software but it’s interface is more like Pro Tools while Rosegarden more closely resembles Cakewalk.

Those are the 3 I’d start with. The best way to get them is through your favorite package manager. Synaptic is one of the better ones. Just do a search in synaptic for these packages. They take care of the dependencies for you. Makes installing software on Linux the easiest platform in the world to install software for. Audacity, Rosegarden and Aurdor are all listed in the Multimedia(universe) section in Synaptic. Just check them say yes you want ot install and it’s dependencies. Then click on apply when you have selected all the packages you want to install.

You’ll also want a good tagger. Easy Tag is solid, I personally prefer Kid3, but there are dozen good ones and Ubuntu comes with Gtag I think it is by default. You should be able to edit ID3 tags through your file browser thought that is a bit tedious.

Installing Lame is a must. If your terrified of a command line you’ll also want a Lame front end but to be honest using lame on command line is a no brainer. Open a term window, lame -vbr (name of wave file you want to convert to a mp3) (name you want the MP3 to be)

lame -vbr something.wav something.mp3

This mp3′s it using variable bit rate which gives you the best compromise between sound quality and compactness of the output. Most mp3s you download today use lame and it’s vbr setting. You get 256k quality where it counts but where there’s lots of quiet you get higher compression ratios usually saving a couple megs on the final output without reducing the quality any.

There are dozens of Lame front ends to let you do that without using a command line. Just search synaptic for lame and you’ll find them. Audacity, Rosegarden and Audor will plug into Lame and allow you to output MP3s directly as well once you have lame installed. Personally I like to hand rip my stuff, then tag it w/mix & version. Then rename & retag anything I’m sending out to people or the public. Saves listening to 10 copies of the same tune to find that ONE mix you were looking for.

As for sampler software, again there are programs similar to Acid and you can use Rosegarden and Audor though they are not designed for it to do some of it. I don’t sample so I can’t recommend which are best of breed in that area.

What break out box you have is the trickiest part. I suggest using Maudio or going direct through USB if that’s an option. Maudio is decently supported in Linux. Avoid Tascam, nearly impossible to get Linux to talk to a Tascam device.

What is a good recording software to record games like Minecraft?

I am planning to do "Let’s Plays" and things like that on Minecraft but sadly my computer cannot handle Fraps because i only get around 2 or 3 fps. Is there any free alternate recording software programs that are good for this sort of thing?
I have tried Hypercam and the video that it produces has very low quality and no horrible sound recording.

Try Hypercam, it’s not as good as fraps but since minecraft is a low-graphical game it should work great.

What is a good gameplay recording software that i can download thats free besides fraps?

I want to start recording gameplay but i have to buy fraps to record for a long time what other software will let me record for a long time without paying?

There are some very good free ones…

BB FlashBack Express – http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/BBFlashBack_FreePlayer.aspx – good screen video capture program. Captures to AVI and SWF formats. The problem with this one is it puts a halo around the screen cursor which cannot be removed.

Expression Encoder – http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=5c3c5f97-678c-4c99-a7fc-f84f320c626f – An advanced audio/video-encoding and live-broadcasting application. A huge program but the video capture is great. Captures to WMV format. The free version is good enough for most things but can only record 10 minutes at a time. The full program is $600 but it really is a good program.

Screen to Video – http://www.koyotesoft.com/indexEn.html – great screen video capture program. Can capture screens to AVI, SWF, FLA and WMV formats. My favorite free recorder.

Wink – http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ – A tutorial and presentation creation software. The screen capture is great. Captures to SWF format.

The most common free one is CamStudio – http://camstudio.org/ – but I stopped using it some time ago after I found it could not capture subtle gradients and even changed some screen colors. It was was seaching for a replacement for that that I chose the previous 4 as good replacements.

Bandicam and Fraps are good and are less than $40 each. I think they are a little resource hungry, but they are very popular.

Another very good one is Camtasia – http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html – but that is $300.

What is good recording software for a do-it-yourself album?

I want to record an album, but I need some recording software. It needs to be fairly inexpensive as well as easy to use. I just need something basic.
Also, are there any suggestions for recording equipment? ie microphones, multitrack recorders.
Thanks!

Your best option is Cockos Reaper. It runs on many different operating systems, is very light on system resources (ie will run okay on an old computer), and is more flexible and powerful than Pro Tools, in my opinion.

Get yourself a two-input USB audio interface like an Alesis io2, a condensor mic like a Rode NT-1A, and a Shure SM57. Also, don’t forget headphones!

Best Multitrack Recording Software daw Studio Recorder by David Campos

http://www.eComputerRecordingSoftware.com -check out my blog

I am David welcome to my blog . Multitrack recording software is the best way and has the ability to record multiple audio tracks to hard disk one track at a time. This gives the music producer incredible power when working with a band or artist. You will be able to record one track at a time and do multiple takes until each musician has done their best take. For example , if a singer is struggling to hit a certain note , you can re-record that specific section again and again until the singer gets it right. This can be very useful.

What is the best free recording software to record runescape videos?

I Want to make videos of my playing runescape what is the best free recording software for it ?

I would say hyper cam as stated before it dosen’t leave a water mark you can also plug in a mic and do a voice recording talking step by step of how to do the guide but you need to slow the rate to 1 frame per second otherwise your voice over becomes out of sync
