What kind of recording equipment do I need to record a song?
I want to get into the music production program at UCO. To do that, I have to create and record 3 songs. What kind of equipment do I need? What brands are the best? I work at Best Buy so I would prefer to get stuff from there with my employee discount. I just have no idea where to start. Is Pro Tools 10 a good program? Is it hard to use? Thanks for the help.
If money is no object, Pro Tools is a good product, but it’s way overkill for a first-time recording project, if that’s what is expected.
Unless you’re going for low signal-to-noise ratios like a professional recording studio, you should be able to do with an internal sound card and a freeware program like Audacity. If you need to record multiple channels, as you might if the musicians are all in one place and playing together (as opposed to single-tracking the entire production), then you might consider a small mixer to feed the sound card, or if you want to spend a little more, something like a FirePod external digitizer, which has multiple inputs and mixing capabilities.
Just keep in mind that the more equipment and software you use, the more things can go wrong and confound your efforts. My son uses some fairly sophisticated hardware and software in his recording studio, and it works very well… NOW… but that was after many days of troubleshooting driver problems, hardware and software problems to get it to that point. Not the kind of thing you’d want to be dealing with when an assignment is due in a couple of days.
What Recording Equipment Does My Band Need?
I’m trying to make myself an affordable home studio to record my band. What affordable equipment do I need to get a good sounding recording? And about how much would it all cost?
We have 2 guitar players, a bass player, a clean vocalist, a screaming vocalist, and a drummer.
Thanks for the help!
Any good PC with a M-Audio 1010L sound card will do. Or the full size 1010 if serious. I’ve had a studio for years.
The M-Audio sound card will come with some lite software from abelton or cubase.
If you have a pc, you will just need the sound card. You can record live but for best results record vocals separate.
What is some good starter recording equipment?
I am in a band. I need recording equipment to record our band straight to a computer. My computer is top of the line and custom built last week. It will run anything. I need to know what are some good ways and products to hook our instruments (Mic, Guitar, bass, keys, drum mic) straight to the computer. And also need a good vocals mic. I’m on a really tight budget. really tight.
IDK
What kind of recording equipment do I need?
Hello I am an opera tenor. I need to know what I need for recording equipment. What type of microphone (Large or Small diaphragm?) Pre amp? Also I need some sort of compressing. My voice is very powerful and I always seem to clip and slam the sound. Thanks
The choice of a microphone is subjective, but many people prefer a large-diaphragm condenser microphone for serious vocal recording.
Look around Shure’s tech tips for some good information.

“CARBON COPY” by Karmin
I’ll never paint the world if I use Da Vinci’s brush
I’ll never write like Dylan if I’m always in a rush
I’ll never help the world by passing on the blame
I’ll never help the world by keeping it the same
Chorus
I’m no one else but me
I can’t pretend to be another carbon copy
I’m no one else but me
I can’t pretend to be another carbon copy
I’ll never play like Jordan ’cause my feet don’t fit his shoes
I’ll never write like Mozart because I only know the blues
I’ll never know the world from a book up on the shelf
I’ll never know the world if I never know myself
Chorus
Oh and I get my inspiration from the best
When I’m around you
Oh and I give it all I got and nothing less
It’s true
