I need a good digital voice recording machine?
What are some relatively inexpensive digital voice recording machines for "regular joe" who wants to record someone covertly?
It has to have about 24 hour recording capacity, don’t make sounds like a warning beeps, not too many lights, be fairly small, and light weight.
Can anyone point me to a good one I can just buy at Amazon.com?
You need to know your states recording laws, radio shack for example will not sell you rec devices if you state you’ll use it for illegal purposes.
Usually these laws are stated as party laws, for example a 1 party law: where it is legal to record as long as 1 party member is aware. (1 person in the conversation/ group) so in 1 party law, taping your wife talking w her boyfriend is illegal if neither are aware.
Furthermore if someone states they dont wish to be recorded in most cases you cant
How can I convert a digital recording?
Who knows how to get a multi-track recording (done on a Boss BR-800) into a .mpg or some other internet format? I know I have to master it …I don’t understand the instruction book..
According to the user manual, there is a USB connection in order to transfer the audio data onto your computer. Without knowing anything else, here’s my best take how:
You will have had software called "BOSS BR Series Wave Converter" ship (on DVD, apparently) with the recorder, along with drivers. Make sure these are installed.. How to use this software and move everything over is detailed on pg. 121 of the manual, with pictures to help.
When on the computer, it depends on your OS and software available. Generally speaking, there are loads of free pieces of software about that convert WAV to MP3. I can only help with Mac, and Garageband will do this for you if you don’t have Logic or any other similar software. On Windows, you’re on your own to find software/with another reply. Just search for what the original audio source is, and then MP3, or MPG. So search "wav to mp3", or "aif to mpg" or whatever applies. You’ll find something.
I hope that helps. I’ve never actually used this recorder, just doing a bit of old fashioned manual reading.
What was the first digital recording medium developed?
I’ve been finding myself interested in the history of various audio/video mediums, and I’m curious; what was the first digital recording method developed for audio, video, or both. Not necessarily the first one marketed, but the first one made with an actual working prototype.
Hi, Shigeru!
Ok. This one’s easy!
In answer to your question "What was the first digital recording medium developed," the answer is…
PAPER!
Now, I may be taking a few liberties here, but there were machines (back in the wild west days,) that recorded morse code transmissions on paper. Now, arguably, that’s not the encapsulation of an audio / video frame, but paper is a medium, and it did record the (arguably) digital "Morse Code."
No? (I’ll ignore the fact that the Player Piano uses a paper scroll to make a mechanical device play music!)
Well, then what about this one: The CSIRAC was the first computer to play music. It played music (mostly popular tunes of the time) from its monophonic speaker!
As to video? Well, Video is just a series of pictures. The first "video" was a movie named "Kitty." A computer printed a mathematical model of a moving cat, which was scanned in to film, then played back via a projector to make it move.
Hope that helps!

I am new at digital recording. What software do I get?
I want to include my djembe sound and harmonica. They are external instruments.i heard cakewalk is good. but ther are differnt versions, cakewalk sonar and cakewalk producer.
There are so many options that it is very hard to recommend anything in particular. Sonar, Logic, Cubase, Garage Band (free on Apple), Pro Tools.. The list goes on and on.
I would seek advice on a forum for people who uses this stuff on a regular basis. Try search terms in Google for "DAW software", "digital audio workstation", "recording software", "best recording software", "beginner recording tutorial" and so on, also add terms such as "forum" and "recording forum" and see what pops up.
Personally I use Cubase with Windows XP at home, but that’s just a personal preference on my PC.
Digital timer for recording video on Digital Video Camera?
I had this Sony digital video recorder. Is possible to use auto timer to record video with it …
I need to record video with my videocam at alternate time. In other words the camera will record video for a few minutes then pause. After another five minutes it’ll record again. All by itself. How to do it ?
Please re-phrase the question../!!??
What does the term ‘sample rate’ mean? & whats its relationship to digital recording?
Its to do with how quickly the sound sample is taken, cds are 44k bits per second and produce good quality sound. Only a dog can hear better than this so it pointless recording at a higher frequency than this. The higher the sample rate the more storage it takes to store the sound file.
Is there a point and shoot digital camera with optical zoom while recording a video?
Is there a good quality point and shoot digital camera that allows for optical zoom while recording a video? Not digital zoom, which just crops the frame you already have and makes the video blurry and undefined, but optical zoom, which actually zooms into what ever you’re looking at without the blurriness of the digital zoom. Thanks so much for your help ![]()
Is there a camera with all of the qualities above that is compact. For example, a camera that could fit in a jacket pocket.

Is it possible that someone can download a emailed digital tape recording to their digital tape recorder?
I want to email a tape recording of something to someone so that they can hear it, but be able to download it to their digital tape recorder to play it, because it is very long (20 hours) and I don’t want to disturb the integrity of it. I would like to send it to The Media. Is that possible?
Why not play it on their computer?
They can play it on their recorder only if it recognizes and plays back the format of your recorder.
You can send it as an attachment.
What is a good digital recording device for playing piano?
that is in the $100-$200 range.. My best friend is a pianist and he needs a better recording device so he can record songs and put them on a cd. I’m thinking of getting him one for his 19th birthday. =)
If he could use a keyboard set up to sound like a piano, it would be possible to download or buy some reasonable recording software either cheaply or for free, and all that would be needed on top is the cables to connect it to the computer. Or you can buy studio time relatively cheaply instead, and in that case it would be easy to record the actual piano live.
