How can I use a VCR for audio recording?
I read an article a LONG time ago, where a producer used VCR tapes, using both the audio tracks and video tracks to record audio on. How do you do it? I read this a very long time ago, and it may have been done with a BETAmax.
BetaMAX Hi-Fi, 8mm, and some SVHS formats record the audio in a very high-bandwidth form by turning it into FM and recording the modulated signal on the tape using the flying heads, as opposed to recording it at tape speed. 8mm takes this one step further and can convert the audio to digital before recording it. These techniques eliminate tape hiss and jitter (wow and flutter).
It was also very common in the 80s and 90s to see digital audio recording on u-matic videotape by converting a digital audio stream to a video-compatible signal (using a PCM adaptor). This was the standard mastering format for CDs for a while, but finding a working u-matic deck today might be tricky.

Recording audio on computer replays strange effect?
My operating system is windows 7. I remember at some point enabling some setting within the audio recording options when I was messing around with it, but I don’t remember what it was. Now, any audio I record has a faint sort of electronic sound to it. I’d describe it as sounding like that audio signal from the Transformers movie.
Does anyone know how I might revert it back to it’s default settings?
Check your audio manager. Mine has Realtek HD audio, and is an orange speaker in the system tray.
It has all sorts of audio effects.

Can fraps record audio from only one window while recording video?
I’m recording a fullscreen game with fraps. I like to listen to music while I play, but when I record video, I would like fraps to only pick up the audio from my game and not my media player. Is there anyway I can arrange this?
Seems the simple thing to do would be to turn off the music for the time that you record.
Otherwise, you can plug in a headset, and use windows volume mixer / media player to play the music through the headset, and have the game set as usual, so fraps picks it up.
Was the audio recording on Der Riese a false hope?
Ok, so anyone who is a nazi zombie fan has heard the audio recording on Der Riese about element 115 in America. Was that originally planned to be a new map, or just a pointless recording?
Im pretty sure they were planning on making a 4th map pack that wouldve been set in area 51 but instead they just decided the start working on Black Ops. There are rumors ive heard that their gunna put nazi zombies in Black Ops but im not sure. Regardless, you havent seen the last of Treyarch and zombies

How would i re-install my recording audio device after i have disabled it?
im on windows 7 and i have an internally built microphone. i disabled it a while ago not knowing that it would permanently stop me from recording again. now when i want to record it says "an audio recording device cannot be found" and when i open the sound settings, it used to show my microphone strength. Now in the recording tab, it says: "select a recording device below to modify its settings : No audio devices are installed"
some one help please, thanks ![]()
1. Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices.
2. You should get a context menu that has two options
==> Show Disabled Devices
==> Show Disconnected Devices
3. Click on Show Disabled Devices
4. Select the Recording Device(mic) and Enable it.
5. Click Apply and then Okay.

What is a good audio recording interface, below $300?
I record music, mostly using Ableton Live, Logic, and Garageband… I need a new recording interface, but I have a limited budget. Ideally, I want something with great audio quality, great analog to digital converters… but under $300!! Firewire would be nice, although USB is ok. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!
I don’t need many channels actually. Only one or two inputs would be fine. Not recording a band or anything, just my own compositions… Thanks!
You don’t say how may channels of simultaneous audio you are trying to capture. Line level? Guitar? Mic? with phantom? USB is used mostly for 2-4 channel audio and Firewire reserved for 8+ channels, especially higher def formats (192KHz, etc). Lexicon makes some nice ones, Tascam has 1 or 2, M-Audio has a few and can use the "M-Powered" version of Pro-Tools as well as working with Logic or Garage Band or Ableton.
