Why do you hear your own voice different when hearing it from an audio recording?
I’m not sure what is "my" own voice’s real tone, the one that I hear everyday from myself or the one I hear from an audio recording. I’m not sure which one is the one people hears everyday???
What others hear is what you hear from a good audio recording. What you hear when you speak is a result of two signals, one coming from your ears (that is from your mouth into the surrounding air and then from there to the ears) and the second a direct feed from your vocal chords to your ear drums and auditory nerves. So, when you hear your voice from an audio recorder, it sounds different.
As mentioned, what others hear is closer to what you hear from the recording.
my anatomy teacher told me that the voice you hear yourself talk isnt how you actually sound. you actually sound like your voice heard in audio, phone, etc. i forgot how she explained it. but its true.

The voice you produce is also being amplified by your Skull, in addition to your ears.
The recorded voice you hear of yourself is directed towards your ears.

When you speak, your voice quickly echoes throughout your’re skull before you’re ears hear it. This slightly changes the sound you hear. Also, the fact that your hearing it from inside your skull and outside your mouth changes it. If you are ever curious what you REALLY sound like, a high quality recording is the way to go.
