A musician or band, having written original songs and wishing to record them at Ximorp, is likely to find that it has never been easier or cheaper. I am looking to record guitar/vocals, recording in loops would be desirable. Also for Windows Vista.

I have Reason, and when I upload it online (myspace) it sounds horrible; even when I converted it through the software to the right compression for online playing it was really bad. I want a software that will sound good online..

What is a good, free recording software that uses a web-cam and a microphone? I’m looking for one that I can sit down and use. I don’t want to have to read a bunch of instructions. It must be compatible with Windows 7.

Have you tried out Screenr.com? I’ve heard that one’s pretty good and easy to use

My friends created a rap group and wanted to be serious about it. I told them I would be their producer and we would record their music. I want to make a very cheap home studio. Is is possible that i could use only my computer, a microphone, and software to make my own music and edit it? Please note, that we are trying to spend a small amout of money.

At the very minimum you need a good usb mic. Samson makes two good sounding mics at an affordable price (c01u – about $70 and the go mic – about $50). I liked the Samson mics because they are bundled vey nice mixing software (you will need this as well). I would recommend a midi keyboard. Something like a Korg Nanokey will cost you less than $50. It has its own usb cable to connect to a computer. For about $100, you have all you need. You do need something to monitor your mix as well. It could be headphones, computer speakers, or a nearby stereo that you can connect the microphone out of your computer to. There are several free mixing programs available on the net. One is called Audacity and another one is Krystal.
