Is there any good music recording software out there that’s free?
My band is gonna start recording stuff eventually, so….yeah. Something that would be ideal for rock/metal/alternative please. Thanks ninjas.
Audacity is good…but not really. You are extremely limited in what you can do.
Ardour isn’t free, but you can try the full version for free for as long as you like. Reaper is a very good program that lets you try the full version for a month, after that it is $60 (which is a steal). I would be cautious with free DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), since frequently, you get what you pay for.
Also, I assume you will need some sort of interface. Many manufacturers include their DAW with their interface.
What items do I need to make a small little music studio in my room?
I want to make recordings of my voice, like singing, in a really good quality like in music studios. What exactly do I need? The microphones….Everything. And if you don’t mind me asking this too, what soft wares can edit my voice? Thanks.
If you have a mac, it comes with garageband, and all you would need is a USB mic and you would be set. It even has a bit of a tuning tool in it.
You can also look at things like the Mbox2 mini which is an audio interface that will allow you to plug a mic into it and plug that into the mic. This comes with protools which is the standard at studios. If you go this route you’ll need a mic. Then if you have to tune your voice get Antares Auto-tune. You can also find other interfaces similar to the Mbox brand for a lot cheaper. They wont come with protools, but it will come with some form of software that will work. Then you’d need to find a tuning program that is compatable.
You can find packages that come with an interface and mic, or mixers and mics that might be a better deal. Check sweetwater.com and musiciansfriend.com for packages, and interfaces to at least get you an idea about the products and prices

Are these prices correct for recording music at a professional studio? Thoughts?
I just finished recording a song professionally at a music studio. They charged me $90 for 2.5 hours and I recorded about eight good tracks. My official track will be available next week and they are charging me an additional $140 for mixing, merging and adding extra instruments to the track. Is this about right??
Sounds good to me
That’s actually pretty cheap.
