I’ve heard mostly good things about Cubase, though I’ve never used it because I’m running Windows Vista and it isn’t compatible. But after I shopped extensively for recording software, I was persuaded by my brother (who owns a recording studio) to go with Pro Tools simply because it’s the industry standard and I’ll be able to take my recorded tracks to any studio to add things. Cakewalk and Garage Band are supposed to be simpler, but the handful of bands I’ve known who used them eventually switched to Pro Tools, since it’s available with M-Box interfaces at far less than you’d pay for the software, alone. You can get an idea of what people think of the various software packages by reading the reviews at Musiciansfriend.com or on any of the music site message boards. Good luck!

i need it to record my vocals so i can put it on a cd. i wanna get it cheap like off ebay or something i just wanna know whats THE best

I’m not answering your question. I just wanted to tell you that your not missing out much with the ending of Outlaw Star. Its pretty cheesy. It had that whole wish thing.

I wear heaphones so i do not have speakers to record the Audio from video im recording on my desktop. For instance if i want to record a youtube video using camstudio i get the video but there is no sound. Any suggestions?

I tried DemoCreator and it worked to record the audio along with the video.
Here are some settings about the audio device:

Here are 3 input sources to choose: Microphone, Rear Input, and Stereo Mix.
Stereo Mix is for recording the playing audio in the computer(no need of speakers).

But if you just want to record a YouTube video, you may try some software like Youtube downloader.

Audacity is a great Open Source (FREE) audio recording software. It handles multiple tracks, and will probably do everything you need.

You can download Audacity here:

Having a good sound card will make the biggest difference in sound recording quality. Creative Labs makes some great consumer level sound cards for under $200.

If you want to go with a professional sound card, expect to pay $500 or more. (You will probably do fine with a nice Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy.)

We are an average rock band trying to not have to pay too much for recording studios.

We have all the normal components:
Bass Guitar
Drum set
Lead guitar
Vocals/rhythm guitar

What recording mic can we get for a basement band room?

I am going to assume that you only want to buy 1 microphone.
In that case you want to get yourself a large diaphrahm condenser microphone. In my opinion this is this the most versatile microphones you can get. It can record everything, and record it well.
