I’ve got a computer and a laptop, and im picking up my electronic keyboard in a coulpe of days. i’ve got e-jay and fruity loops software but wanna take that next step in the music productoion scene…….Can anyone give me any ideas!

You might consider a USB interface. This will allow you to connect your keyboard and mic to to your computer:

It comes with recording software too.

What all equipment is needed in a music recording studio?

Music, Recording, Equipment

Too much to make into a simple list. But the basics are something to record on to, either a computer w/the software and interface or a DAW (digital audio workstation – self contained recorder/mixer), mics for vocals, drums, amps, and other various sound sources, monitors to hear and mix with, cables, stands, headphones, etc. You also need some way to control the sound, even if it’s hanging blankets on the walls. A lot of retailer web sites have packages put together that can give you ideas. Look at www.musiciansfriend.com, www.sweetwater.com, www.ams.com. You can also go to book stores like Boarders and get recording magazines that can help. I forget the name, but they carry one that’s aimed toward the home studio crowd.

What’s the best home recording studio software?

I’m on windows xp, i’ve heard logic 8 is really good but seeing as i’m not a mac user i think that’s out of the question. i want something that is easy enough to use, allows me to layer vocals and mess around with pitch and rhythm and that sort of thing. i don’t really have any experience with recording studio software but i’m a fast learner and don’t want something i’m going to get bored with!

The most expensive one…

(And I’m not joking, here…)

You get what you pay for, when it comes to recording software

Is there music recording software that allows you to re-record chunks within tracks and change timing?

I am completely new to this, but my current software doesn’t allow me to just record bits and pieces of one instrument, which is what I want to do, since it is unlikely that I will be able to perform a whole song spotlessly. Ideally I would like to record a verse of piano, than a chorus, by recording where I left off on ONE track. Also, is there software that will let me get all my tracks timed perfectly? I need much help. Thanks!

All you really need is a MIDI sequencing software like:

Apple Logic (http://www.apple.com)
Steinberg Cubase (http://www.steinberg.de)
Cakewalk Sonar (http://www.cakewalk.com)

That way you keep the sound editable (you can change the instrument sound later), you can alter the tempo/signature/groove anytime, and yes you can record it piece by piece.

With it, you can create a really simple loop based music to a fairly complex orchestra with absolute control.

Have fun.

How long till digital cameras come with HD video recording as the norm?

Currently most digital cameras with video recording do so at VGA resolution, which is 640×480. HD resolution is 1280×720 or 1920×1080.
Uhm101, I’ll agree that while they don’t do everything well… they give you the flexibility to take both video and still images. For some people this convenience is great especially when traveling and you don’t want to carry lots of equipment around. Just look at a Canon A720 camera. It takes good photos… and gives you okay videos when you want.

Never I hope. Multifunction devices do all things in a mediocre fashion.

what is the best audio recording system and is it free?

its cuz i am trying to record some of my songs but i can’t find any good
recording audio thing and when i do its very expensive
please anyone can you help me?

The best audio recording equipment is very expensive. So expensive in fact, that companies exist that let you just rent the use of the equipment by the hour. They’re called recording studios.

What’s the best way to build up a music studio?

I’m going to start teaching voice and piano privately and I’m wondering what is the best way to build a good student base? I already have a studio space, a curriculum and plenty of materials. How should I go about letting the community know I am teaching?

Join the local organization of certified or school music teachers. They will admit adult qualified teachers – you do not have to be a school teacher yourself. They will be a good resource for student referrals. You must demonstrate to them that you can improve their programs by them sending students to you. If there are specific competition or festivals for which they would like students prepared, beyond what they have the time and expertise to do themselves, then you can assure them that your education and own professional credentials would be suitable to do the job.

You might contact schools and see if they need accompanists for their choral programs. This would give you a chance to see and hear what is going on in their program. You CANNOT solicit in their school, but a word with the teacher might pay you back in THEIR giving your name out.

Advertising seldom works as well as direct contact with other professionals. Perhaps another voice teacher has a waiting list or overflow, and you can take on those students. In many communities, private teaching is VERY competitive, so I hope that you can demonstrate that YOU are the best qualified to teach! Good luck with your studio – I have had a private studio for 37 years, and have found it very rewarding.

Can anyone recomend some voice-recording equipment, for use in interviews?

It has to be inexpensive and relatively easy to use. Schoolkids (~15 years old) will be using the recorders to record interviews with adults in a local history project.

There was a half page article a few years back in the NYT about a special sales guy in a select division of Sony, I believe, which did only this. Adds in Antique Radio Classified, maybe elsewhere, can bring in this stuff, once you know what to look for. Sketchy info, but if you want something special….
