Why is music recording software so expensive?

Don’t they know that most musicians are poor? :/

I currently have Cubase LE (free edition that came with my FireBox). Cubase 4 costs a whopping $600. Although I have been pleased with the intuitiveness of the Cubase interface, I’m going to make either MixCraft 4 or Reaper my next purchase ($65, $230 respectively). The only thing I’m concerned about is MIDI support, which I know the current version of Reaper is now competent at.

Have you considered FL Studio?

I know it looks quite different from Cubase, but don’t get fooled by the pattern based view it opens in. It supports MIDI and has a great piano roll. If you get the Producer Edition ($199) you also get full audio support with ASIO in recording and the Edison Wave Editor.

I don’t know what type of music you’re doing but I can get anything done on it really.

You can try the demo here: http://demo.flstudio.com

If you would like to buy it you can get a 10% on your purchase from the image-line store with this promo link: http://support.flstudio.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BACJBAA468

Audio settings on digital camera for recording at heavy and loud concerts?

I recently went to a pretty heavy concert and wanted to use my digital camera to record some songs on video. I soon after noticed that there was alot of distortion in the video audio.
I was just wondering what my audio settings should be at.
Should the Mic level be Auto or Manual?
Should the Wind Filter be on?
How high or low should the Level be?
The concerts are bands that I am friends with, and have their full permission to take videos.

Mic level should be at manual. When you do this, the mic gain should appear on the viewfinder or LCD screen of the camcorder. the volume level should NEVER peak all the time – best to be around 3/4 so the audio does not clip and get muddy.

Since you did not tell us which camera you are using, we have no way to know how you select or set this in your camera. Most DSCs and consumer camcorders do not have manual audio control… The least expensive camcorder – of which I am aware – with manual audio control are the Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 and the Sony HDR-HC9.

Wind filter on only if it is outdoors and windy… or if the camera/camcorder is in the path of an air conditioning duct outlet – in which case, it would be better to move… or use some sort of physical wind-noise reduction device like one of the Rykote windjammer devices.

What is the main difference you hear between midi file and a waveform audio recording of a?

What is the main difference you hear between midi file and a waveform audio recording of a symphony orchestra playing the same piece of classic music? Which will take more time to transfer from the web to your computer? Which one lasts longer? How do you explain the difference in the length of the music you hear, when the file size is the same? Which example sounds better?

thnx

of course the quality of waveform is something else coz in midi format it maps every note to take the least space requierd for that music, and the main difference between these two is that you can use MIDI (music instrument digital interface) format to see notes and use that for music lesson practice or similar but the wave format you can only hear and pleasure of listening or using that somewhere you want, MIDI is also good to use as ring tone for mobiles coz it is most default ringtone format and less in size.

Is there a such thing as computer audio recording software?

I am interested in recording a song. Is there any computer software that will allow me to do this on my pc?

Yes, but your computer either has to have a built-in microphone or you have to buy a microphone that can be plugged in to your computer. Please add "Additional details" to your question telling us what brand and make of computer you have and what operating system (Windows, Linux, Mac OS, etc.) it’s running, we can go from there.

Has anyone ever tried using a Rock Band 2 guitar in Guitar Hero World Tours "Music Studio"?

I’m asking lucky people who have played both unreleased games. Please don’t answer out of speculation. I just wanted to know if all the music studio features work well. Also, can you play Rock Band 2 with a regular controller? How about music studio with a regular controller?

Nope im not lucky…

What home recording equipment (Portable Multitracker) would you advise our band to buy?

Our band is just starting out and don’t have much recording experience. We are all students so money is tight and we need something us tech-doofuses can use but makes decent quality recordings. We’ve researched and figured we need a Portable Multitracker.

Can anyone recommend a good/reliable/cheap one with links?

Cheers. xD

Electronics mart…. you will get a good choice there

I am trying to create my own little home recording studio but i need a proper microphone?

can anyone give me a website that sells studio microphoneds with usb that are of good quality and not expensive. I would also like to purchase a pop filter. I use my computer microphone to do my demos but they are not clear . Could you guys also give me a good recording softeware that is not complicated to use other than audacity thank you.

Musicians friend is a good place to look. Definitely get a pop filter. And try different mic technique’s. A great place to start is to flatten your hand, turn it sideways and place in between your mic and mouth. Moving just a tiny bit closer or further away makes a huge difference.

where can i find the best music recording software?

It’s not free, but very affordable and packed with features: Check out FL Studio. You can hookup your MIDI keyboard/piano (if it has MIDI outputs/usb) and control different sounds in FL with it.

It comes with free lifetime updates (you’ll have the newest version for the rest of your life, free.) It’s easy to learn yet has much depth in tools and features. You can check out the demo on the image-line website.

In case you want to buy it, you can get a 10% instant discount on everything in your entire first order at image-line. Here’s the promo link for the discount:

Is the Panasonic DMC-TZ7 a good digital camera for recording rock concerts?

I want a camera for christmas as i have alot of concerts coming up and i’m looking for a digital camera that is great at recording concerts with clear picture and great sound quality, the digital cameras i had in the past dissorted the sound and all you can hear is the bass.
i’ve looked on youtube at the tests and this camera looks great but i want to see what you all think?
Do you reccommend others?

There really is no good or bad camera for concerts. It’s apparent you really don’t understand what’s happening.

Any camera, regardless film or digital, automatic or not, requires light to make stills or video.
In low light situations a still camera’s shutter will remain open longer trying to gather enough light to make a photo. While the shutter is open anything that moves in the field of the camera’s view, even the camera, will cause blur.

Video is a different matter. No consumer camera is equipped with a mike that can record the loud music from a concert – the equipment just doesn’t work that way. Recording such high level audio requires high level, high quality equipment that is very expensive.

Regardless of the video or still camera or even a still that does video, you’re going to be disappointed with the audio – it’s a fact of life.

Also don’t discount the copyright issues involved in recording such events. If you’re caught you may be in trouble.

Do Canon Powershot cameras have decent audio recording capabilities?

The two models I am most interested in right now are the SD1100IS and the SD770IS. I want to be able to record videos with alright audio. Are these two good choices for small pocket cameras?

The best deal I found on the 1100 is about $150, and the 770 at $165.
Which is the better deal?

audio is average.
1100 is better
