When did Digital Recording become the norm?

Also, what do you think are the pros and cons Analog (tape) recording and digital recording??

About 6 or 8 years ago when digital storage became so cheap. The only advantage that analog had was a somewhat warmer sound – but now with tube or "tube emulation" pre-amps and the newer mic amps that’s pretty much gone now. There are some analog purists left, but they’re getting hard to find – let’s see if any answer your question.

I want a digital camera that has good audio recording for videos, what should I get?

I currently have a Canon PowerShot SD300 digicam, I like it but the audio is subpar to my ears.

What would be a recommended camera for a person who wants good audio? I don’t just mean sensitive, either, I want a good, smooth, realistic sound. On my current camera, the sound and audio is rough and choppy.

Any suggestions? Or should I even go for a camcorder for superior audio recording?

I have a little Kodak Zi6 HD camcorder, and the audio is amazing! It is the best of any consumer camera that I’ve ever seen. The video is great too. The only downside is that indoors in really dim light it gets a little grainy. I went to a wedding last week. I didn’t care about the video, but I just kept it on to record the band. The recorded sound was awesome.

What is the best home recording equiptment package?

I would like to buy some home recording equiptment (software, box etc.)
but i don’t know much about them, could anyone tell me which are the best ones to buy? Thank you!

When you say "best" do you mean cheapest? Or do you really mean "best?

Cheap but good:

Good but still far from the best:

If you really mean best then I hope you are prepared to spend a lot of money (maybe $500,000 or more).

what equipments and music software would I need to start my own music studio?

I am a singer and a writer but I have decided to start my own home studio. what would be a cheaper way of recording and using a music software to edit and mix with other beats and stuff. What type of microphone and about how much would I have to invest in.

as far as software, what i have used, is pro tools, reason 4.0, sony acid pro, and cubase sx 3.0 (current version is 5.x !!- damn i didn’t know this, just checked)
but software/hardware to look up in general
REASON
BATTERY
LOGIC STUDIO
HALION
KONTAKT
SONAR
ACID PRO
FRUITY LOOPS
CUBASE
PRO TOOLS
MACH 5
EDIROL

as for hardware, it’s all a matter of tastes, price, and what you want within a song..
a decent mixer, speakers (sound system),
throw in a recommendation for the MXL 990 microphone
